For a while there things were looking up for the blackcurrants. We’d had orders for a decent tonnage of fruit from a couple of commercial customers with talk of that escalating in a couple of years – still small fry compared to the 180 ton we’ve produced in the heyday of growing for Cascade, but something to build on – so I’d been looking forward to working on from that.

But all the orders fell through on fairly short notice.

So the plan now is to get as much of the A1 fruit as possible sold direct to the public and the rest will go into BJ. Of course, doing this on short notice involves risk too – I wondered as I was loading up the website whether I would end up delivering just one 2kg bag of fruit to Devonport.

But you’ve got to give it a crack, eh?

I’ll be adding recipes to the site to give people something new to try with their fruit.
