Valleyfield Farm
Glen Huon, TasmaniaWelcome to Valleyfield
Valleyfield was originally 100 acres of river flats with the sublime Huon River as its northern border. The farm now reaches the treeline just obscuring the view over Franklin on its southern border, with the property spanning 440 acres, including the river flats, hillside and bushland. Sometimes impossibly green as in the springtime photo above, while the soil type has always been considered ‘marginal’ by Tasmanian agricultural standards, the property has been home to commercial potato, hop, sheep, beef, pear, apple and blackcurrant production over five generations.
Valleyfield seems to have been a popular property name – not to be confused with New Norfolk’s Valleyfield, which has also been home to blackcurrants.
